Ah the adventures of ePublishing. I knew my “A Guy’s Secret Guide to Fifty Shades of Grey” was doing well on Amazon (it’s #6 in the category Humor/Parody) because I can get daily reports. But because Smashwords distributes to other outlets, I had no idea how they were doing. (And it still isn’t on Barnes & Noble – they’re working on it.) So I poked around iTunes just to try and get an idea if anyone is buying it. And very much to my surprise I discovered that in the Humor category, the top four selling books are by: Adam Corolla, Joan Rivers, Tina Fey, and Tom Paolangeli. I about fell out of my chair. Pretty impressive company to share a list with! I had to print the list out so I could keep checking back and see it in black in white to prove it wasn’t a dream. I also reluctantly checked back the next day to see if it was a mistake. Nope, still keeping company with some big names.
Now I have no idea how that translates to sales, but it must be reasonably good. Other cool numbers – on Amazon UK I’m #4 under Kindle/Humour/Parodies and #7 under Books/Humour/Parody. I’m #35 of all books sold on iTunes UK, and on Kobo I’m rated #11 for General Humor and #1 under “Essays.” (Not sure what I’m doing in that category, but whatever.)
All in all I’m quite amazed and grateful. As the Dead said, what a long strange trip… and it ain’t over yet!
Id love to hear what you’ve got a say about the other 2 books! Have you or are you going to read them?
I haven’t read the other two, yet. What made the first book so ripe for satire is also what made it a such a slog to read! It’s hard to imagine the other two being much different. But I suppose out of curiosity I’ll have to read them, and if I can think of anything funny to write about them, I’ll do so.
